New Clone Wars Figures Toys At Toy Fair 2010 - The Toyark - News

At the high end is a rare Mills 50-cent Chicago jackpot upright slot machine that has a presale estimate of $45, 000 to $65, 000. Designed for the 1900 World's Fair in Paris, it was described in a Morphy news release as a rich man's amusement (50 cents was a lot of money back then). The top presale estimate, $80, 000 to $120, 000, is for a Caille nickel-finish double-upright slot machine that combines a 5-cent Eclipse and a 25-cent Centaur in a single tiger oak case; it is in good operating condition.

Coin-operated penny-arcade lots include a circa-1904 Caille Bros. Mickey Finn Strength Tester, complete with original marquee and faceplate ($20, 000 to $30, 000) and a circa 1930 Grandmother's Prediction fortune-telling machine ($15, 000 to $22, 000).

Preview: 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday at the gallery, 2000 N. Reading Rd., Denver. For further information, call 717-335-3435.

"Made to Be Played." The European toy collection of Grover Van Dexter, founder of Second Childhood on Greenwich Village's Bleecker Street, will be featured in Bertoia Auctions' "Made to Be Played" sale next weekend in Vineland, N.J.

The Van Dexter collection includes scores of windups by Lehmann and the lesser-known, French-made Fernand Martin. The 28 Martins will be offered at the auction's second session, beginning at 10 a.m. March 24 at the gallery at 2141 DeMarco Dr.

Among the rarest windups are a Parisian woman performing slow walking movements and a circa 1895 soldier carrying a rifle, each expected to bring $2, 000 to $2, 500, according to the auction catalog accessible at Other rarities are a floor steam locomotive with rear-flywheel propulsion ($800 to $1, 000) and a maid carrying dishes who drops them when a spring is activated ($500 to $600).

The 87 lots of Lehmann windups also will be offered in the March 24 session. The most unusual, the so-called Boxer Rebellion windup, which depicts Chinese figures ready to toss another from a canopy, has one of the auction's top presale estimates: $10, 000 to $13, 000.

Also in the 700-lot session are about 100 cast-iron doorstops, most with presale estimates in the low three figures, although eight could bring four-figure prices; a Mexican flamenco guitarist expected to bring $1, 800 to $2, 500; more than three dozen cast-iron Kenton vehicles and nodding toys; and a Carpenter tallyho horse-drawn four-in-hand with a presale estimate of $10, 000 to $12, 000.

The auction's top presale estimate is for one of the cast-iron vehicles in the first session, beginning at noon next Friday: a 13-inch-long Arcade moving van made around 1929 that is expected to bring $14, 000 to $18, 000. Another top vehicle in the 620-lot session is a circa 1928 Hubley Popeye on Motorcycle with a presale estimate of $10, 000 to $12, 000.

The session also features more than 150 mechanical and still banks, including a Mama Katzenjammer mechanical bank, made by Kenton around 1905, that has a presale estimate of $5, 000 to $7, 000.

Previews: 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, and 8 a.m. to sale time March 24. For further information, call 856-692-1881.

Civil War memorabilia. The Civil War prison guard's acquisitions will be featured at the spring catalog sale of Wilson's Auctioneers & Appraisers, beginning at 3 p.m. Wednesday at the gallery at 344 Valleybrook Rd., Chester Heights. They come from the estate of descendants of Robert Pyle, a member of the Fifth Regiment Delaware Infantry. Pyle served as a guard at Fort Delaware on Pea Patch Island, where 11, 000 Confederate soldiers were housed, including those captured at Gettysburg.

OT: Toys

Since it's the season to shop for your snot nosed neices and nephews it's a good time to browse all the current toys out there. In years past I've been saddened by the state of action figures. I always thought the 80's and early 90's were the bestest. But this season I am pretty surp...artoon series and they're pretty freaking sweet.
Star Wars - I guess they're based on the Clone Wars. If I was still a fan of star wars these would be awesome.
Marvel - I guess there wasn't to much to compare them to but I really like em
Transformers - Probably the only disapointment of the bunch
